Foundation
Honors Cunningham Presidency with $7.5 Million Gift for Music and
Art Center

The Degenstein Foundation of Sunbury, Pennsylvania,
has awarded Susquehanna University a grant of $7.5 million
for the construction of a new music and art center to honor the
accomplishments of President Joel Cunningham who has just completed
a sixteen-year tenure as Susquehanna's president. The project will
bring the music and art programs under one roof and includes a 320-seat
concert hall. The Degenstein family has been a remarkably generous
donor to Susquehanna throughout the Cunningham presidency, including
major gifts for several campus buildings. Joel Cunningham becomes
President of The University of the South on July 1, and will be
sorely missed as the founding president of ANAC and a leader in
ANAC's evolution over the past decade.
Quinnipiac
Becomes "University;" Butler, Susquehanna, Drake, and Hamline Fill
Positions

July 1 is the date when the name change
at Quinnipiac from "College" to "University" becomes official. President
John Lahey requested campus and alumni input on the proposed change
over a year ago and the decision was made late in 1999 to go forward,
a reflection of the robust enrollment and program development at
all levels at Quinnipiac University over the past decade.
Butler and Susquehanna universities have chosen senior
women administrators internally to guide them on an interim president
basis for the coming year. Butler's choice is Gwen Fountain, who
has been Dean of Academic Affairs; Susquehanna has selected Sara
G. Kirkland, who has been Vice President for Advancement/External
Relations. Both have assumed their presidential responsibilities.
Ron Troyer, Dean of Arts and Sciences at Drake University,
has been named Drake's Provost. Garvin Davenport, associate dean
at Hamline University, has been named Dean of Liberal Arts.
Ithaca
College Completes Impressive Capital Projects

Several impressive new physical facilities
were among the outstanding features that Woodrow Wilson Summer Institute
participants were able to tour and enjoy during our time on the
Ithaca College campus, June 14-17. The College's spectacular
new Fitness Center, opened in August 1999, was available for participant
use throughout the Institute. In addition to two gymnasiums, the
Center contains an aerobic room/dance studio and a 100-station exercise
area. Institute participants toured the new Center for the Health
Sciences which also opened just prior to the 1999-2000 academic
year and adds a computer center and pediatric, adult rehabilitation,
and occupational/physical therapy laboratories for Ithaca College's
nationally-recognized health sciences programs. The James J. Whalen
Center for Music was dedicated in October 1999, as a showcase 68,000
square feet new home for the College's acclaimed School of Music.
