ANAC
CASTL Project Expands Member Participation

ANAC's Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship
of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) steering committee met at the Summer
Institute on June 17, with John Sullivan of the nationally-recognized
Elon College project and interested faculty from other ANAC members.
Launched in February during a meeting with CASTL's Pat Hutchings
at the AAHE Faculty Roles and Rewards Conference, ANAC's CASTL initiative
seeks to develop linked campus projects that will sponsor an array
of scholarly initiatives around teaching and learning that might
be shared. The group noted that the rubric of the "scholarship of
learning" provides an attractive way of engaging faculty and students
in joint research activities that contribute powerfully to student
learning, while facilitating faculty participation in CASTL. The
steering committee will continue efforts to involve ANAC members
in the project in the months ahead and is considering an ANAC CASTL
meeting or conference for sometime in 2001.
Year
II of ANAC Data Exchange Underway

ANAC member institutional researchers are
submitting Year II data to the ANAC Data Exchange. Over the past
several months the Year I format has been reviewed extensively and
improvements have been made to clarify definitions and to gather
data members currently submit to IPEDS and the College Board's Common
Data Set (CDS). ANAC Data Exchange member IR contact persons attending
the American Institutional Research Association (AIR) convention
in Cincinnati met on May 23 to review the Year II format. Most the
data that will not come off existing surveys is of an outcomes nature
gathered to benchmark institutional performance or to provide data
for the ANAC CFO financial benchmarking project. Year II findings
and reporting techniques will be unveiled at the CFO benchmarking
mini-conference in Chicago on July 22. Data questions about the
ANAC Data Exchange should be directed to Jerry Berberet (850-927-3948,
email anacjberb@aol.com).
Technical questions should be directed to Patrick Alles at Creative
Analytics (317-972-9468, email patrick@creativeanalytics.org).
The ANAC Data Exchange is located at the ANAC web site and can be
accessed at http://www.anac.org.
ANAC
Inaugurates Electronic Directory

The ANAC mailing list will go online July
1, providing convenient mailing list access through a link on the
ANAC homepage at http://www.anac.org.
The ANAC Electronic Directory will contain full name, title, institution/organization,
mail and email addresses, and phone and fax numbers for the approximately
700 persons at ANAC member institutions, other colleges and universities,
foundations, and higher education associations and groups on ANAC's
mailing list. Users will not only have access to the entire Directory,
but will be able to sort the list by member presidents, institutional
representatives, chief finance officers, chief student affairs officers,
PR directors, head librarians, international program directors,
institutional research directors, and campus coordinators of ANAC
projects. Other groupings will be added in the near future. Names
will be searchable by last name, title, and college/university or
other organization. Users will also be able to send email from the
Directory by clicking on the desired email address.
User feedback and suggestions are welcomed. Contact Jerry Berberet
(anacjberb@aol.com) or Patrick
Alles (especially regarding technical problems-- patrick@creativeanalytics.org).
