| Ithaca: Career Networking Program The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) cosponsors the Professionals Symposium, a dynamic career networking program now in its nineteenth year, in collaboration with the Offices of Alumni Relations and Career Services. Each fall during Homecoming Weekend, ALANA undergraduates enjoy this opportunity to meet ALANA alumni, and alumni are provided with a vehicle for reconnecting and giving back to the college community which nurtured them. Symposium planners invite alumni in the most popular career areas to share their expertise and insights with current ALANA students at an informal Friday evening networking dinner. Alumni are brought up to date on campus diversity issues at a Saturday alumni breakfast. Students and alumni meet again during Saturday’s all-campus networking lunch. Students also have an opportunity to consult one-on-one with specific alums.
This busy weekend also sees the launch of the current year’s OMA Alumni Mentoring Program. Alumni, who participated in mentor training session during reunion weekend in June, meet with their mentees for the Homecoming weekend workshop on mutual goal setting and expectations. The weekend finale is the awards dinner, which showcases the accomplishments of current OMA students. This gala evening, always a celebration of multicultural cuisine, draws hundreds of attendees who applaud the students’ strong scholarship, leadership and service and honor alumni and community supporters.
